Why Protect the Land

The Amazon is facing increasing pressure from deforestation and the rapid loss of traditional ways of life. For the Indigenous families we support, the forest is their school, pharmacy, and marketplace—but without active protection, this heritage is at risk.

At Senen Yoi, protecting the Amazon rainforest is at the heart of everything we do. The land is not only home to the Indigenous communities we serve—it is their source of food, medicine, and ancestral wisdom. By preserving it, we ensure both the community and the forest can thrive together for generations.

Our sustainability efforts focus on:

  • Maintaining a protected nature reserve for learning, cultivation, and conservation

  • Teaching sustainable cultivation so families can grow their own food without depleting the land

  • Passing down traditional land stewardship to the next generation

Adapting During Challenging Times

When the COVID pandemic interrupted our education programmes, we prioritized protecting the nature reserve with the limited funds we had. Maintaining the land and community space ensured that when the world reopened, we could continue our mission without losing our foundation.

This reserve now serves as the centre for future learning and cultural preservation, where healing, education, and sustainability come together.
